What a Flight Attendant Actually Packs for Her Trip

The Core Travel Essentials I Use on Every Trip.

A little fact about me? I travel for work. I sleep 15 days in my own bed and the remaining in a hotel bed. So when I tell you I am a professional layover bag packer? I mean it.

Regardless if you are packing for a Europe Trip or for a 24-hour work conference, these are some flight attendant must-haves for layover comfort. No this is not a Capsule packing blog, we all know you will never follow it and still pack five extra dresses and three extra pants than you should have and you will probably not wear them and they will come back from your vacation folded the same way they left your bedroom. So I am not going to bore you with what clothes to pack, I trust you know that better bestie, but literally the essentials and then some more.

What are some flight attendant must haves to bring on a layover:

  1. The document Pouch: https://amzn.in/d/emGUKG2
    • Your Passport (put it now, not later, now!)
    • Passport sized photograph (in case of any visa on arrival/immigration formalities)
    • 50USD cash hidden in your pouch (you will probably never use it but just in case of an emergency and USD because it's easily convertible no matter where you are)
    • Government IDs
    • A pen
  2. The Handbag: https://amzn.in/d/9rZQz39
    • The Document pouch.
    • Your Wallet
    • Noise cancelling Earphones (Trust me on this)
    • Eye mask and 3m foam earplugs (a life saver for when you need silence and darkness to fall asleep) a literal sleep essential for me https://amzn.in/d/2P41AIS
    • Vitamin C1 during day and Magnesium Glycinate2 during night (For Immunity and Travel Related Stress)
    • A small pack of Wet Wipes.
    • Mint and Throat Relief Lozenges3.
    • A book? Or Redirect to 'On your Phone' section Below.
    • A refillable water bottle https://amzn.in/d/35MYj5q
  3. Toiletries Pouch: https://amzn.in/d/9TpAYka (in your checkin bag NOT your handbag)
    • Toothbrush(with cover) and Mini Toothpastehttps://amzn.in/d/6ZCONIU
    • Face Wash
    • Cleansing Balm4 (most micellar water bottles mess up the bag if they leak)
    • Shampoo & Conditioner Sachets or Mini (The lesser bottles you carry the better)
    • Heat Patches https://amzn.in/d/aZooEDh (because Aunt Flo always arrives when we travel)
    • Sanitary Napkins5
    • Soap with case https://amzn.in/d/6ZCONIU
    • A sheet Mask (for a day when you need a little pick me up)6
    • If you plan to carry your 14 step skincare routine. https://amzn.in/d/3sazEuV
    • Comb/Detangler/Hairbrush
    • Vicks Vaporub (trust me)
    • A Small Medicine pouch with 1-2 tablets of essential medicines and a few band aids.
    • A small Scissors.
  4. On your phone:
    • A PDF/Photo of your Passport in your notes app on your phone
    • A photo of Visas (if any) on the same note
    • Government IDs PDF
    • A Mozart for meditation playlist on your music app (for when you want to sleep while travelling
      )https://open.spotify.com/album/2xPUgPgbcDccOmhzpoFvVA?si=3PCWRJCkTiC4UzYPCEF1nw
    • Activate Smart downloads on your Netflix or Youtube if you refuse to read a book.
    • Offline Maps of the city you are visiting (on Google Maps)
    • Check if any Transaction Limit set for international or merchant spending on you bank cards.
    • Check Travel/Roaming plans (If travelling international) Check Out MobiMatter.

None of these things or brands are sponsored or affiliated to me. These are things I personally use for airport to hotel and need more often than not when I am on layovers. Most of these things are one time buy objects and then can be used time and again and if you notice they're not even that expensive. When travelling concentrate more on carrying less. Anything you think you might need either ask if you really would, if yes carry a mini version of it. Trust me, there is a travel-sized version of everything.

And in the end, remember to relax while packing, I know this seems like a lot to pack only for essentials, but remember prevention is always better than cure. It's always better to pack it now than to search for it later. Obviously you cannot carry your whole bedroom and bathroom with you but if only we could! Until then this is a foolproof detailed list by Me of things you most definitely might need and even Chat GPT won't anticipate and curate this masterpiece for my girlies. Now all that's left for you to do is, Enjoy your Vacay! Oh, and if you do need recommendations on clothes to pack I would have most definitely posted a Packing guide for that too.
