If self care feels like another item on your to-do list, you’re not alone. This guide is for the girl who wants a calm mind, clean space & less self guilt— without turning it into a full-time job
-your everyday girl
This is not a blog post telling you to bake a cake or write a journal to make you feel productive, because you and me we both know that there is probably no chance of it happening. We'll be lucky if we cook dinner for ourselves instead of ordering in today.
If you're wondering what is Self Care, it’s not about being unmotivated — it’s about making things feel good enough to actually do. Habits or tasks that are sustainable enough to be a part of your daily routine, it's basically when you are tired but high functioning. Acts that's will actually make you feel better at the end of the day.
If you've woken up at noon today with absolutely no energy to do anything but binge watch TV, that's FINE. Give yourself today to laze around with no strings attached and try to do at least five to seven low-effort high-impact habits from the list below.
- You don't need to cook a spread:
- If the first thing you are reaching out to is coffee, DON'T. Stand in the kitchen and drink one tall glass of water instead. Eat a meal before you have that coffee.
- Can you fry two eggs for now and then treat yourself with an UberEats for lunch later? Do it.
- Since we are ordering in today, choose the healthier alternative. Kourtney K said, "the most crucial part is choosing your food off the menu, make a good choice then, what can you do later?"
- Carry a Sipper with you and keep yourself hydrated throughout the day.
- TRY to cook the simplest meal you can for dinner, cook during the day when you have even a little energy so in the evening when you are hungry, you have home cooked food in your kitchen.
- Feel Good List:
- If you cannot get yourself to shower today, that's fine. Go and at least brush your teeth and wash your face.
- Change into your Cutest or Sexiest comfy outfit or even pyjamas.
- Let your hair down from that homeless bun.
- Open the curtains in your room and open windows even if for a couple hours.
- If you do decide to have a quick shower, try to turn the last 10 seconds to a cold run just to get the blood working.
- Keep your skincare absolutely basic so you don't spend most of your "achieved-it" energy on only one task.
- Screen Time List:
- Call one non-triggering person from your contact list. Even if it is for five minutes.
- Try Limiting social media for today. Not saying you doomscroll, but sometimes we don't even know we spend an hour or so just passing time.
- Even if you have to watch Netflix for a while, that's okay. Watch one or two episodes of your comfort show and then find something motivational even if for one episode.
At the end of the day, self care doesn't have to be a chore or even an effort, it has to be basic tasks you do that are sustainable. They don't even have to be perfect. I literally went on a rant about how being healthy is not that difficult.
Even if you achieve five things from the list above on an absolutely shit day, it is more than enough. You do not need to do it to prove anything to anyone, you literally have to do it just for You.
